THE FEATURES DEVELOPMENT AND CLINICAL COURSE OF PRIMARY CONGENITAL GLAUCOMA IN INFANTS

The development and clinical course of glaucoma in premature infants was studied. One hundred and one children with glaucoma in the age range from 1 month to 18 years were examined. Among all the examined patients, 69.3 % were born prematurely. Among the glaucoma patients, prevailed infants with a gestational period of 30–33 weeks, and body weight at birth 1050–1650 g. In all premature infants with glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity was found, during the active phase of which, the patients predominantly received glucocorticoid drops, or the combination of drops with photocoagulation or cryotherapy. The onset of glaucoma in premature infants mostly occurs between 5 and 8 months post partum, i. e. the onset is later than in full term babies. This fact is to be taken into consideration in the follow-up care of such patients.
